Best Celebrity Weddings of 2017
With the recent announcement of another royal wedding in 2018 (YAY!) we couldn’t help look back on the best weddings of 2017. From exotic destination weddings to thrifty minimalist weddings – this year has seen it all and there has never been a better time to stock up on wedding inspiration. We’ve compiled a list of our fave celebrity wedding moments of 2017 below.
Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli
She’s made a beautiful bride many a time on the big screen, but she played her biggest bridal role yet when she married Indian cricketer Virat Kohli in a secretive winter wedding. They picked the world’s second most expensive holiday destination – Tuscany, Italy – as the backdrop to the weekend extravaganza.
Both bride and groom wore couture Sabyasachi; Anushka favouring vintage English colours embellished with silver-gold metal threads, pearls and beads. While the groom kept it sleek in an ivory raw silk sherwani embroidered in a vintage Benarasi pattern.
The ultimate fairytale look was pulled off by Shaadi Squad.
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews
From India’s royalty, to Britain’s royalty – we loved the quintessentially British wedding of Pippa Middleton and James Matthews.
Pippa’s traditional white gown by Giles Deacon was nothing short of spectacular (and gives sister Kate Middleton a serious run for her money).
Guests included Tennis ace Roger Federer and Vogue executive fashion director Serena Hood. They were joined by curious onlookers, some of whom had travelled as far as America to get a glimpse of the newlyweds and their Royal guests. The ceremony took place in the beautiful British countryside of Berkshire, and remained a very private affair.
Aftab Shivdasani and Nin Dusanj
Although their wedding was registered in 2014, the ceremony didn’t actually happen until 2017. But it was a ceremony that was well worth the wait. After having visited Sri Lanka, Bollywood actor Aftab Shivdasani and his bride Nin Dusanj had fallen in love with the location and decided to make it their destination for their eagerly awaited ceremony.
With lashings of natural greenery and turquoise waters, Sri Lanka does not fail to deliver on those beautiful wedding backdrops. It also meant the Aftab could make his wedding entrance on an elephant…
Both bride and groom complemented their surroundings by choosing ivory outfits. Aftab wore a sherwani designed by Troy Costa while Nin opted for a stunning couture lehenga by Yoshita, which was set off by intricate light gold detailing.
Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel
We love the modern fairytale romance story of Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegal. One is a world famous supermodel and the other is the billionaire founder of Snapchat. Naturally the world was curious to know not only how they met and fell in love, but also what a top supermodel will wear on her wedding day!
The two first met at a glam Louis Vuitton party in Los Angeles and were friends before they started dating. Despite their hectic schedules, they both love to come home after a long day. “He’s not out partying,” Kerr stated. “We’d rather be at home and have dinner and go to bed early.”
It’s no surprise then that this low-key couple chose to tie the knot at their home in Brentwood, California, with a minimal guestlist of 45 close friends and family.
The Victoria Secret Angel was inspired by Grace Kelly’s 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco. She met with the Dior design team in Paris and together they created a more “pulled back” style. She favoured a high neck and covered arms, “a dress that fully covers you creates a sense of purity and mystery” she says. The simplistic style of her wedding is perfect for her personality, and we love that she stayed true to it.
